The Zoo consists of 42 acres located in Queen Kapiʻolani Park. It is the only zoo in the U.S. to be established by grants made by a sovereign monarch. The Zoo features over 1,230 animals in specially designed habitats.

Pana'ewa Rainforest Zoo, Hilo

This small 12-acre zoo is the only one in the United States located in a rainforest. It is operated by Hawaii County and receives its funding from the county and from private donations. The zoo has more than 60 species of animals on display, and the grounds feature more than 40 different species of plants, flowers, and trees.

This Aquarium, founded in 1904, is the second oldest public aquarium in the United States. Since 1919, the Waikiki Aquarium has been part of the University of Hawaii. Built next to a living coral reef on the nearby shoreline, the Aquarium is home to more than 490 species of marine plants and animals.
